I’m excited to share this project with you on the blog! I had been wanting and needing an office in my home for quite some time. The small desk in our bedroom kept doubling as a clothing rack and that’s not the easiest way to stay organized lol. So closet office it was! I wanted this space to feel special and inspire me. I knew I was working with a small closet so I would need to lean into that. I decided that because there are no windows and it felt cave-like, I would run with that concept! Well, now its competed!
Office Closet desk makeover
When I was designing the functionality of the space I most definitely needed to include a desk. Sometimes I have little coworkers that like to draw next to me so I wanted the closet office desk to be long enough for a collaborative partner 😉
Closet Desk
I wanted the desk to serve both as a function piece as well as a design element. I knew that I didn’t want the edge to be simple and I wanted it to bring in some texture. I added mini-fluted trim to quietly bring in a design element for this unique closet office.
Small walk-in closet built-ins
Storage has always been an issue in our home so I was hoping to incorporate additional storage in this space. Since material costs were high and I wanted a quick turnaround time for this closet office, I went with prefab cabinets and I couldn’t be happier with this decision. It added function while also being a quick project. That meant I could spend more time on the stone feature wall and faux beams.
I have laid stone before and know the work that goes into creating a stone wall. For this closest office, I wanted something that was just as beautiful but not as labor-intensive.
Stone accent wall
While googling faux stone I discovered these faux stone panels on amazon. I knew they would work well to emulate the same look I have in our fireplace just around the corner.
Fake Stones for Wall
Grout does not adhere to PVC material so I needed to find an alternative. I tried spackling and it seemed to work pretty well. This was a lot simpler of a process than I had anticipated and the final result looks very authentic. I don’t recommend using this method in a space that needs to be wiped down consistently but as an accent wall in a closet office, it’s gold!
Ceiling Beams
This “room” does not have any windows and is relatively small. In order to incorporate some type of design element I was going to have to get creative. I knew that there was no natural light to work with so it was giving me a cave vibe. This inspired the stone wall. In order to really bring in the old world feeling I love, I wanted to incorporate beams on the ceiling. I didn’t want to make this project complicated so I used 2×6’s to emulate shallow but wide beams.
Small closet makeover ideas
Small closets are a space I actually really love to transform. This will be the fourth closet I have redone. And of course, a closet office isn’t complete without the finishing touches.
Office Decor
When I’m designing a space I really like the finishing touches to serve a purpose. While they need to be beautiful they also need to meet a need. So I went with vintage-style functional pieces. Thanks for reading! I’ll see you on the gram!
